A cinematic journey along a Mexican railway line on the Yucatán Peninsula stops to let the local inhabitants reflect on the environmental and social consequences of a railway project that threatens the indigenous Mayan culture and the surrounding nature. The controversial “Tren Maya” is meant to restore the overgrown tracks, but what does the new rail line bring along? Through archival clips and new footage, the film becomes a kaleidoscopic tour of the vast peninsula, into the wisdom of the Mayans and the ideological and territorial struggles.
